Do you have
Dec 19, 2004 8:34AM PST

the IE icon anywhere on your desktop?

If so, use that as Toni says.

If not, goto Start > Find the Internet Explorer icon in the first menu list if you are using XP, or in Programs > Accessories if not, then do as Toni says.

Try This...

Go to Start, Control Panel, Add and Remove Programs, scroll down and see if Windows XP2 is listed anyplace on there. If it's not on there it may not have installed.

Can you furnish more Information on your Operating System, is it a new computer? Did you download SP2 from a CD or did it come with your computer? The more information you can furnish, the easier it will be for someone to help you.

Jim, Open Windows Explorer(Not Internet Explorer)and go to C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer and inside this folder you'll find IEXPLORE.EXE. Right click it and choose Send to Desktop (create shortcut) and then follow Toni's instruction to move it to your Startup folder.

Are you actually using IE to surf with
Dec 19, 2004 7:28PM PST

If you are an AOL customer, you aren't using IE and you would have to use THEIR icon (or the MSN one if you use them) in the Startup folder instead. If you are using somebody like NetZero or PeoplePC, you need to use that icon instead.

I only mention this because you say you have no IE icon anywhere, so you must be connecting through a service that you click that icon instead to connect with.

AOL uses Netscape now, I believe, and not IE....but the other services probably are using branded IE programs geared to advertise their own company.

Hockey, Add Internet Explorer To Your Desktop
Dec 20, 2004 2:39AM PST

In Windows XP, RIGHT click on a blank area of the Desktop, choose "Properties". When that loads, click on the "Desktop" tab, then click on the "Customize Desktop" button. When that loads, in the "General" tab, place a CHECK mark in the "Internet Explorer" box, then click on OK, etc.

Hope this helps.

Jim, Right click your Start button, choose Properties, under the Start Menu tab click the Customize button, using the dropdown arrow button choose Internet Explore and checkmark "Show on Start Menu" for Internet. To put a Internet Explorer icon on your desktop right click your desktop, choose Properties, under the desktop tab click the Customize desktop button and under the General tab checkmark Internet Explorer and OK your way out.

I'm missing something here
Dec 20, 2004 3:03AM PST

If he has no IE icon on the desktop and none next to the Start button in Quick Launch (not actually ON the start button menu), then how is he connecting to be on the net? He's got to be clicking something somewhere to connect, right? lol

If that's the case,
Dec 20, 2004 7:02PM PST

then he can just drag the Comcast browser icon to the Start-up folder as Toni first explained.

I would suggest a right mouse drag and
Dec 21, 2004 12:42AM PST

choose Create Shortcut Here so if something goes wrong, he still has the original on his desktop and only a shortcut to it in the Startup folder.

Hope he comes back to read this thread now......

Hi TONI....

It is really hard to help someone without enough information to go on, all we can do is guess and that don't always work. I would like to know what the problem is, just for future reference.
