Adding new Tivo series 2 to my Direct TV

I currently own a DirectTV Sony SAT60 with built in TV. I would like to get the new series 2 tivo version and have been told not to hold my breath for DirectTV to create an upgrade.

So my question is, can I buy the new stand alone tivo and connect it to my directTV SAT 60 and take advantage of the series 2 features?

You probably could use the s-video out on your DirecTiVo and connect it to a new standalone TiVo. However, as a DirecTV customer, you can get a Series 2 DirecTiVo from DirecTV for $99. I, personally, would go that route. It would be much easier than looping your old unit through a standalone TiVo, plus you would get better picture quality.

Oh, and using the DirecTiVo would only cost you $4.95/mo for the TiVo fee versus the $13 for the standalone unit.

Thanks for the heads up on the series2 directivo. The problem is that the Series 2 Directivo does not support the Home Media Option (or at least that is what I read) and that is the feature I really want to get from series 2. Do you by any chance know how to get Home Media Option on a Direct TV Tivo?

I don't know if there is a way to use the Home Media Option with the DirecTiVos. I am still using a 3-year-old Series 1 that I connect to a Home Theater PC in order to record and share TiVo programs.
