Adding new hard drive and transfering files and folders

Jun 8, 2007 5:24PM PDT

I have a Dell Dimension 4600i with a 40 GB hard drive. I ran out of storage space and added a new 80 GB drive (keeping the 40 GB drive in the system). I need to know how to transfer My Documents from the old drive to the new, or transfer my music and photo folders to the new drive as they occupy the most space on the 40 GB drive. I am of the understanding i can't just move the pics and music to the new drive, as it will not work. i must transfer the iTunes and Adobe Photoshop programs to the new drive and then move the pics and songs from the respective libraries to the new drive. Does anyone know the best way to do this?

Thanks,
Pwickens

Thanks, Kees. I didn't know if the system and program files needed to be on the same hard drive, in order for iTunes and other programs to work.

Moving My Documents to another hard drive

I moved "My Documents" folder and it moved to the new drive but now none of my songs are in my iTunes library and don't know how to make iTunes find and play my songs. Any suggestions?

iTunes

Okay,

First of all I hope you dont have many songs because my way is long and very boring

1) Open iTunes
2) Locate the song PATHS for the "missing" files
3) Under the properties of a "missing" song update the path

By default the folder iTunes uses (and most programs for that fact) is the default path and places all songs in that folder. When you open iTunes it searches in the path that IT has specified for that song, once it is missing (changing my docs from C:/ to D:/) the path is useless and needs to be updated

Hope this helps (don't harrass me with stuff like its not under properties you dolt -- I am using my memory say something nice like "Its not under properties its under <insert location here>" =D
