Adding GPS info(lat, long, alt) to "details view"

Mar 7, 2011 11:26PM PST

How do I add GPS info(lat, long, alt) to "details view" of my "pictures" folder. I can see this specific metadata in the jpg file's "properties", but I when I go to the "choose details" list, there are lots of choices for picture-type files, but neither lat, long,or alt are part of that list. Is there a way to modify the "choose details" list to include this data so that I can add it to the "details view"? Sugestions?

I am running Vista, on a Dell Studio laptop.

Adding GPS (lat, long, alt) to Vista "details view"
Mar 8, 2011 10:54PM PST

bob,
thanks for the help.I saw that site, which starts off with: "When you have the Windows 7 operating system or a previous version of Windows installed on your computer..." I tried to follow the directions in Vista, but it didn't make sense. It seems that this, in fact, is only in Windows 7. Dennis

I apologize.

I just moved cross country and my Vista machine is AWOL. To get this to show in Explorer we'll have to consider Explorer Add-ins. But be forewarned, almost all have at one time or another created yet another issue.

Let's google.

There's not a lot of these out there but this appears to add the GPS column to Explorer.

BEWARE this should really slow down Explorer as each image has to be opened, read, parsed and more.

Bob,
I'd rather not go the way of "add-ins"...presently pursuing alternative using exif-pilot and MS Photo Pro 2.2
thanks, Dennis

Ok, the long way around it.

How about an EXIF editor that can copy the GPS data from that field into a field that Vista Explorer shows today without an add on?

For example, no one I know uses the comment field so use a batch exif tool and copy that to the comment field.
