Adding access point to network

I’m trying to add an access point to a network. There used to be on there but it went pop. Access Point is a Draytek Vigor AP800. Default IP of the AP800 is 192.168.1.2. The network it’s going into is all in 192.168.0.*

How do I access the AP800 app to set it up? Tried plugging it into PC direct and typed 192.168.1.2 direct into browser... nothing. Tried attaching it to network... nothing.

It’s the admin panel I can’t access. I’ve got all the manuals and stuff here. I am fine setting up routers but never done an access point before so not sure if anything is different. With a router I’d just plug it in to a computer and type the default IP in, but it’s working with this.

It’s for my own house so no admin available Silly

Never used a dedicated access point before is what I meant, only a router acting as one.

But many of them you plug into the Ethernet port of the product and your PC to setup. Then you set it up and then plug the device into the network. Since such products seem to use this method I'd start back with the product manual to see how they start from scratch.

There is another issue and since this appears to be labeled "legacy" you may have to press and hold it's reset button (see manual) to get it to factory configuration to start the setup. I've run into network techs that could not setup the APs (many models) and they were telling me "I am following the manual" but said manual assumed you knew to start with a factory condition product.

If you re read my question I state that I have tried plugging it in to the back of the PC direct... It is brand new out the box so one would assume it is factory reset however before I asked on here I had already tried all the basics, including that, including using the supplied software, including everything in the (very small) user manual. I was looking for more advanced assistance.

That's why I noted the usual hold the reset button.

Since I don't own this model I can only share what I run into and would parrot what's in the manuals.

If doing the reset doesn't help what's to tell us this isn't just a dead product?

To move to advanced assistance I would have to have the product to test and see what's up by trying to ping it, reset it, and any other clues. That can cost more than a good AP. In fact we are using less APs now. Why? We just configure a router as a WAP. (Google "use router as a WAP" to see a common setup we use. Why? Cost.)

I already did a factory reset before coming on here, no joy, tried pinging too, no joy. The LAN light comes on as soon as you plug it in, and the network light on the PC lights up green, but it seems there is just no communication between them

The unit it's supposed to be replacing was actually a router set up as a WAP but that was the second one to go pop, as this AP was surplus to requirement it seemed best option. I have them in a different setup and they were a lot more reliable so seemed like a good idea. I think after a bit more testing this is just a faulty unit, I'll return it.
