adding a usb printer port in XP Pro

I'm trying to install a Canon printer, (USB) ..when the installation says pick a port it doesn't show any usb printer ports.....only lpt 1 and comm ports...how do I install a usb port for printing ???? Thanks

Have you enabled the USB ports in the BIOS??

Do you have USB ports?? Check in Device manager.

Many mobo drivers do not install USB ports because they use Microsoft's. Usually the manual and the driver CD tells one to get the USB driver from the MS site.

USB Printing Support

For reasons I probably will never understand, every now and then Windows fails to install USB Printer support when it's initially installed. This MUST be installed before you'll be able to use a USB printer.

Typically the instructions for setting up a printer tell you to hit cancel on any add new hardware dialogs that come up when you plug the printer in... Well, the trick is to ignore that. Chances are one of them will be for USB printer support, so be sure to let that one install and cancel any others that are for your printer itself.
