take a look at this article from Apple:
If the font is really what it says it is, and not some tweaked version of a ttf, then it will install automatically.
This is an interesting site to:
Hope this helps
I just got a new Mac (10.6.7). When I (manually) transferred my documents over, I found that I didn't have one font on my new machine that I had on the old - spranq_eco_sans. I have a recollection of adding it to my old machine maybe two years ago.
I went to the internet and downloaded a zip file of the font. I opened it up and it gave me a .ttf file.
I tried to install by clicking on it. It launched Font Book and installed the font in my user library. Went to use it in Word and it wasn't there (not in the list; generic font on existing documents not changed over). Restarted machine - no luck. Manually moved the file up a level so that it went into the fonts folder in the library on the hard drive. Still no luck and again a restart would help.
So I have this font in a .ttf file. How do I use/install it and then make it available in Office 2011 products.
(The old machine died so I can't go look at it and see how / where it was installed - just had the documents backed up, not the system stuff)
