adding a 2.5'' drive to slave position on desktop

Dec 12, 2005 7:21AM PST

I have an adapter for 2.5'' to 3.5'' hard drives complete with a connector for drive power (4 pin).
If I hook the 2.5'' on to the ribbon cable at the slave position should I be able to read the new drive ?
What letter ID ?

I am running windows 2000 professional on the desktop.
Do I have to tell windows the device is on the cable ?
The 2.5'' is from a Fujitsu laptop C2220A Lifebook
P4M 30Gb was XPH.
The desktop is a P4 2.6Ghz 800Mhz
with Western Digital wd400jb 40Gb 7200 8Mb IDE HDD.

Thanks,
Jim
