If it's for DVD playback, don't do it.
If it's for presentations, look at the VGA to TV converter boxes.

I have a Sony Vaio V505 and it has no S-video output. Is there any way I can hook it up to a TV?

Would something like this be ok?

I might look for a newer one that works with WinXP.
There was that MARGI card back when where there were less options to do this trick, but DVD playback seems to be where most scream when it doesn't work. And I do warn about it.
Why isn't a VGA to TV adapter suitable?
Bob
Well, I guess it is suitable. I'll probably be buying one. Any suggestions?
BTW, I intend to use this for gaming, primarily. I'm hoping there is something that will do that for me. DVD playback would be nice, but not necessary. I won't be doing too many presentations, but that ability will probably come in handy next month.
I think this is what I need: http://www.grand.com.tw/en/product_form.asp?lwk_series=45&lwk_product=a-040&lwk_page=
Again, just be clear that DVD playback is usually not possible. Many wonder why but it's a copy protection and license issue.

If you have made that connection yet and how it is working. My boss has a Sony T150 that does not have the s-video port and wants to connect it to a TV to play DVDs. But from this post, I'm guessing that may not work?
I've seen far too many people try this and ... fail. It's a copy protection issue with DVD. The DVD software player may specific block the image from appearing on the VGA connection. It catches some by surprise. And you get to try it to find out.
Here's the bottom line. DVD players are Walmart, bestbuy are 25 bucks and up. You'll be paying much more for that VGA to TV converter. Maybe using a DVD player is a better idea?
