usually this would causes suspicion as to how they are jumpered, and where they are attached on the cables themselves. If you have a harddrive as master or master with slave and you have a cdrom attached to the same cable, you would jumper the cdrom as a slave. If you have two cdroms on the same cable, one will be master and one will be slave. If you are using cable select, make sure you have the drives jumpered as such and that you are using the correct ends of an 80-wire cable (black end on master, gray on slave, and blue on the motherboard).

if i go into device manager my new dvd burner shows up,but it doesnt show up on MY COMPUTER as a drive (c,d,or e). Now my regular cd-rom drive no longer responds. any suggestions.
