Are you using the latest ref file of Ad-aware? It was written in Wilders that the latest ref file no longer detect wsupater.exe
The possible solution as per one poster in Lavasoft:
I put my windows XP cd back in (home edition) and got to the recovery prompt. You should be in C:\windows now follow from here:
type 'cd system32' the directory should now be
type 'copy userinit.exe wsaupdater.exe'
1 file should be copied, now REBOOT!

I need some help with AdAware reboot failure. I just downloaded AdAware and ran on a computer that was loaded with Malware and Spyware. I foolishly quarantined all of it and when I tried to reboot I couldn't. Cycles through loading user preferences and then logs off. Identical symptoms of wsaupdater.exe known issue. I have used recovery console to copy my existing userinit.exe to wsaupdater.exe, but cannot reboot to correct the registry.
If you have any helpful knowledge or suggestions I would greatly appreciate it.
Is there anyway that I can reverse what I have done using the recovey console? By the way, "last known good configuration" and "safe mode" don't work either just like the wsaupdater issue. Would it be wise to try Fixmbr or Fixboot? I wouldn't dare try these without some guidance.
Please send any suggestions.
