AdAware

Feb 6, 2004 10:17AM PST

This afternoon I installed the free version of AdAware and did a complete scan. The problem is I haven't the foggiest notion how to read the scan or what to do with it period. How do I know what to ignore, quartantine, etc? I will probably uninstall just like I did once before. Any help will be appreciated.

If you are new to Ad-Aware, we strongly recommend that you read the Help file before attempting to use the software for the first time. After you have read the manual please be sure to update your reference file to the latest release and be sure to configure the RefUpdate feature (recommended) to automatically search for new updates on a weekly basis.

Also read the log file once the scan is completed. It will provide you the information it scanned and the problem files and entries it encountered. Most spyware entries will be Data Miner entries, that you can either quarantine, or delete, I choose the latter for I do not wish to have them on my system and take up hard disk space. Log files are important to many security based programs, as they provide you the necessary information as to the type of file and where it came from. I manually clean out my own caches, and rarely have spyware cookies or history tracks. Good luck with your system and hope this assists you.

Joan,
Re updates.
Subscribe to the news letter and you will be advised whenever an update is issued. Updates can be fairly frequent and if left to a weekly run some would be missed.
