Adapter Q's

Sep 16, 2005 4:34AM PDT

Goal, would like a 2.5mm(3/32") phone headset to be merged with a ipod 3.5mm (1/8') output and all be inputed into another 2.5mm source (another phone). Basicaly I want to be able to use the full functinality of a headset to talk on a phone while splicing in the music of an mp3 player. The issue im coming up with is that as soon as I plug in the mp3 player into the adapters I have, I loose the ability of the mic on the headset.

Current set up:

1 audio Y-adaptor (Accepts two 2.5mm stereo phone plugs and outputs to one 3.5mm stereo phone jack, this 3.5mm stereo phone jack is then adapted back to a 2.5mm, aka I couldnt find a Y-adaptor that accepted two 2.5mm inputs and outputs to a 2.5mm).

Then I simply plug in my headset to one of the 2.5mm inputs of the Y-adapter, and into the other input I plug in my mp3 player that has a 3.5mm to 2.5mm adapter attached.

Anyway like I said I lose ability of the mic with this set up. I have two headsets and I tried plugging them both into the input of the Y-adaptor and both mic's worked on them fine. Can somone tell me whats up? Maybe I have to use a mono wire from my mp3 player to the adapter instead of a stereo? Im confused just writing this post! do help....

Thanks in advanced,
Nick
