Ad-Aware SE problem

by Sch29 / March 20, 2008 4:28 PM PDT

Have been using AD-Aware for some time and really like it. Normally there are new updates every 15 days but I have gone over 80 days with no updates. When I try to get an update, it states that there are none available. Have any of you experienced this? I can't find any way to actually contact them to ask about this. Help would be appreciated.

Adaware SE Has Been Officially Unsupported...

In reply to: Ad-Aware SE problem

since Dec.31st/07 while they've pushed their >>20 MB<<< new 2007 version
which unfortunately has been very buggy & too much for many older
"Legacy" OS's & machines (example Win95 & 98 )which used SE easily at 4.5 MBs.

HOWEVER....after much pleading, begging & bitching...some kind soul there has taken pity on us old fogies and started re-issuing current updates for MANUAL download & install via a mirror site using .zip defs.

Get 'em Here:

If you have never done this before, it's pretty easy to do.
Go to site & download & save to My docs the offered .zip file.

When ready, go to and right click to "extract all".
New folder "defs will appear.

Open Defs folder and right click & "copy" defs.ref file there.

Back out to desktop & double click "My Computer" Navigate > C: or OS drive letter>program files>Lavasoft. Open Lavasoft & see Adaware Folder.

Without opening Adaware folder, right click and select "paste".

You'll get pop-up asking if you want to replace existing defs.ref file and reply Yes. Back-out and you're done!

Hard to believe but our savior & Lavasoft in general have been putting out update defs for both old & new on average every 3 days so far.

Caveat: No promise how long they'll continue to make available SE versions in this manner. For now this is keeping SE on my machine which will NOT be using 2007. I am thankful for the small blessing. Grin

The defs file you get each time is complete & current. Each larger than the last one so contains all past & additions. Current is R231.

This should disable your pop-up saying "its been x days since your last update" etc. No more nag! Grin

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
