Resolved Question

Ad Aware Free 9.5

Aug 30, 2011 11:33AM PDT

I received an e-mail from CNET indicating that a new version of Ad Aware, the free version was available for download. The version is 9.5. I downloaded and installed it. Since I installed it I have done 3 smart scans and each time, the scans have detected zero objects. I am wondering if there is something wrong with the install as with previous versions, there was always objects detected when I ran smart scans. Any info, and comments would be greatly appreciated.

Ad-Aware 9.5

Louis..

I was hoping someone who was familiar with Ad-Aware 9.5, would respond to your post. I can only offer the little I've read.

According to a CNET review on the 29th, the Smart Scan "only checks mission-critical areas of your computer for infection". It leads me to believe, maybe some changes have been made with this version, if you '"always had objects detected" in the past. It's only a guess.

It might help to know, which "objects" AAW used to detect. According to the same review, "Ad-Aware 9.5 Free offers a browser track sweeper. Accessible from the Extras button, it can wipe your cache, cookies, history, last typed URLs, and tabs from Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome, and Opera." Have you been utilizing this feature? Are any items listed, what AAW used to detect?

Let us know what objects AAW used to detect, when performing a Smart Scan. It might be a good place to start.

Thanks for your reply. I ran both a full scan and a smart scan again and each time it found cookies so I quess it is working. For the full scan it also found a "Win32.Toolbar.Mediabar(815). In the full scan, it said that it had found 47 objects, 2 of which were allowed.
