Ad-Aware 2007

Sep 6, 2007 5:50AM PDT

Is anyone else noticing installation problems installing Ad-Aware 2007 on their Vista machines? Even running the .exe as administrator it says setup has stopped prematurely because of error. Anybody else seen this?

Got this from the Lavasot forums
Sep 6, 2007 9:01PM PDT

"Ad-Aware 2007 supports Vista (32-bit) from version 7.0.2.1 on".

What have you got? Vista 32-bit or 64-bit? Which version of Lavasoft?

vista and ad-aware installation
Sep 8, 2007 6:23PM PDT

The way i got round this was a tip i picked up off someone else ( cant recall who ) but basically you turn off the user account control , ( you know that annoying crap that keeps asking are you sure you want to do this ,( dunno i am 3yrs old how does it work Mr Gates aka tithead )), then download ad-adware 2007 directly from the lavasoft site , went straight in , no problems , try it and see , hope it helps .

I tried that and still get the failed message

I even tried to execute it using XP SP2 compatibility mode and that failed. This is driving me nuts! I do have to say though I was lol at your reference to Bill Gates. Thanks wolf!

odd???

What make of PC and which vista version do you have? Which anti virus and/or other anti-spyware etc , any of these may be causing a conflict, McAfee has done in the past for example. Have you tried downloading to cd-rw or flash drive then installing ? or installing in safe mode ? which browser are you using ? mozilla/ firefox is notorious for blocking anything it deems unsafe (eg :- microsoft updates lol).
PS:- If all else fails send a Dear Bill letter asking for our money back , as i have vista too growls and howls .Happy)

What I have......
Sep 8, 2007 7:49PM PDT

is Norton Internet Security 2007, IE 7, and SuperAntiSPY. None of this affects Ad-Aware SE. I wonder if I need to manually uninstall SE Plus first. This SuperAntiSPY just detected 64 cookies! Sheesh! Do you have any other suggestions?

You may be on the right track...

I read somewhere to uninstall the old version first... clean up all remnants. I have no experience and still use the former version.

Hope this helps... let us know if you have success.

Well I tried that

and that didn't work either. I even went into regedit and cleaned out all the entries. I think Lavasoft needs to patch this up or say it is still not compatible with Vista.

Well try this ......

Go into the program files and remove the lavasoft folder or ask one of the boys on the lavasoft forum they usually know all there is to know about ad-aware btw it works on my vista lol and yes you have to remove the old version 1st as glen says ,it is compatible with vista ( although vista isn't compatible with much lmao ), mine came in a nice box which is the best thing about it, ( my daughters hamster loves it , and he dont know jack s... about pc's), old Bill should of got the box designers to design vista , mine came with a game for making cakes which had a copyright on it , to funny , my 3yr old did that in 5 mins and hammy ( her hamster did it in 10 ), me thinks vista was designed by monty python as a spoof lol.

cookies
Sep 9, 2007 3:54PM PDT

You can use internet options to block most third party cookies , install Winpatrol as scotty eats them , add crapcleaner that will take them out , do it each time you log off , scotty does it in seconds , click there gone. You could also try rogue remover pro 1.14 on a 30 day trial (its on CNET downloads )until ad-aware issue is sorted , there is also a free (limited ) version of spyware doctor 5 that comes with a google pack (there is a custom install fortunately ( as who the hell wants google on there pc , more crap ))from here http://pack.google.com/intl/en/pack_installer.html?hl=en&gl=us , that should keep you covered in the meantime ke4 .

The lavasoft folder
Sep 10, 2007 6:54AM PDT

is out of C:/program files and in my internet options I accepted first party and session and session cookies and have blocked third-party cookies. I uninstalled Ad-Aware SE and manually deleted all entries for that in regedit. I even tried using XP SP2 compability mode.I also looked in the event viewer to get a detailed explanation of the error...very vague and I am still getting the failed installation message.

Resolved yet?
Sep 19, 2007 10:30PM PDT

Had the same sort of problem on an xp pc a friend brought round , eventually got round the problem by going to hippo files aka files hippo and re-instaling an earlier version than manually updating till we got to the latest version , seems lavasoft wont re-install if you have an earlier version of the 2007 dunno why and dont care too much either , anyway it went in ok and works .
PS:- anyone know why ad-aware keeps finding adopt.euroclick tracking cookies and how to block the bloody things ?
