Question

Active Directory Users to reset their password

There are around 1000 users in my organizations. There are numerous requests relating to reset password from users to IT helpdesk staff, particularly when they are forced to change their password at the end of a month. It is really time-consuming. Is there anyway that I can let them reset their own password. Although it may seem a little bizarre, is there any solutions like web-based forum or email in which a user can reset their own password provided that he/she enter some correct information?

Commonly used helpdesk support systems can have such features. If the system you use doesn't, see if the maker honors a change request or search for another one.

As far as I know, there is no built-in tools in Windows that allow you such thing. You can use third parties which usually call this feature Self-Service Password Reset. Some of the most common ones are as follows:
Borna AD manager
ADSelfService
I recommend you to use their trial version first. They implement slightly different approach. So, you have to figure out which one is suited for you. For instance, ADSelfService requires to install a package on all clients. Borna, however, use a web-based and SMS-based solution.
