activating infrared of laptop.

i have toshiba m35x s109 notebook. i want to activate infrared port on that. can anyone tell me how to activate infrared port or i have to install any software for that.

i entered bios (f2 key) but there is no such option(for infrared) in that it has very few options. it is version 1.40 of bios

i am using windows xp home edition. is it possible an infrared connection in windows xp home edition or i have to upgrade it

is there any software which tells if infrared is activated or not

please tell me

my bios have no such option i tried to upgrade bios when upgrading is stops responding at checking flash drive. is there any option or i have to upggrade it to xp pro. i have no linux.
i have 1.40 version of bios

i upgraded my bios from 1.40 to 1.70 but there also i cant find any option related to irda or infrared. i installed the driver also but i cant activate infrared.
please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

a look on the back panel of the laptop to check if an IRDA port exists.

irda port exists on the same lacation where it is described on the manual.
after upgrading the bios there were the same option. which were in previos verion.

have all the same apparent spaces on the outside of the case, but that option was not installed at the time of manufacture. They use the same case for all units on the assembly line, but don't install the optional things inside. If it doesn't show in device manager and doesn't appear in the BIOS setup, then your's might be one that just doesn't have it. As a final resort, you might use the Add Hardware wizard in Control Panel to see if Windows can find any evidence of it at the hardware level.
