Question

Activate or reinstall?

Apr 8, 2018 10:13PM PDT

Hi,

I have reinstalled Windows 10 and I chose Windows 10 Home N hoping to get rid of useless software while I have a Windows 10 Home licence.

What should I do to activate my Windows? Is there a way to install Widows 10 Home over 10 Home N without losing my configuration, programs and files?

Answer
This is something I have not tried.

You tried to install Windows 10 N and your license is W10 Home. I have yet to try that so please share what happens.

For a fresh W10 Home I have NEVER had any issue with activation. It just works after I connect to the Internet.

I have tried and it does work to install W10 Home 32 BIT and then change my mind and install W10 Home 64 BIT so that does work. But if you change versions you will have to share your results.

As to Windows N, there are many discussions so I will not debate here. I want to cover what does work and if you want to try something new, I will be interested in the results.

Thanks for the suggestion, but in the meantime I have reinstalled the correct version of Windows and it activated automatically as expected.
