Activate English Windows XP using code for French version ?

by deepla2 / January 25, 2011 11:59 PM PST

Hi I have a netbook (Acer Aspire One 32 bit) with Windows XP OEM in French. Will I be able to install an English version of XP from my friend's XP installation CD and activate it using the code for my French version ? As I will have to partition the drive during the installation of
English version, I thought I would ask here first. Thanks in advance.

There's no need to partition the drive. You can install the new OS in the same partition, overwriting the first version. And you can always goback to what you have now via the recovery partition or media.

Maybe better ask Microsoft free activation help phone before you try. It's somewhat doubtful, even if your friends installation CD also is for the Acer Aspire one.

Almost always no.

The code on such machines is never used as we install the maker's supplied version of this OS so the code does not have to work on other versions and issues of XP. But you can try it.
