Ask for a service manual on it. Did you call Acer? Here it is toll free. May as well ask. I'm not there to look around the model but anything that has 2 wires to any board gets a closer look.

The thing is, most companies are doing that.

You may have to add almost every maker to your list.

thanks for your help i have just downloaded the service manual and it says the battery is under the main board. it shows a button cell battery after all. so when i get a chance i will strip down and check it out. not sure though at the replacement battery as it shows a photo of the battery with a wire or wires coming from it to the main board may need to solder wires when replacing i dont know yet.http://www.manualslib.com/download/232932/Acer-Rl100.html

Sometimes I don't find the manual or a picture. I read you had looked for the coin so I offered up the other shape of battery I encounter.

Good find!

yes bob but i didnt want to start pulling the main board out to find the battery. you would of thought they would of fitted the battery at a easier access as this is a replacement item from time to time. not looking forward to doing the job but i will have a go now that i have the manual thanks again bob

hi all i mamaged to get to my battery today after removing more than half of the internals as per service manual i downloaded. i had to remove the heatsink as well. now my question is do i need to remove the blue paste thats on the heatsink clean it up and put some fresh stuff on ?. or will it be fine. have battery out complete with the lead thats attached to it. pc is back together temp just to see if working, the cpu temp is sitting around 48/49 at the minute. going to my local maplin store in the morning to see if i can get a new battery . they might need to solder a battery onto this lead of the old battery if i cant get a new unit.

I always remove and replace heatsink compound.

I know folk that try to avoid that but here I want stable, no return repairs.

Let me be clear I don't usually go as far as this next artcle goes in being spotless clean, I just get all that I can without getting rough as well as be sure there are not high spots that could be some sand speck.

50C seems a bit high for idle. But you know what it was before.

So they used that other battery type. The one with leads. The neat part is that I've used so many replacements over the years. That is I can solder, insulate or make a replacement in a few minutes on the bench. TIPS. If you are lucky, it's red and black. Red is positive. Second, the battery voltage is usually the other key thing. If it's a common CR2032 then you can find (well at least here) CR2032s with legs that we can solder to. Then insulate with the usual tape.

thanks bob good read that link was . i will get some thermal paste tomorrow and clean up and fit some on just to be sure. to be honest i never checked the temp b4 on this pc. its just i remember seeing the cpu temop once in the bios b4 and thought i would see . sorry i didnt check now as i dont know what it should be at. the ervice manual doesnt say . i plan on opening this battery up to see what type it is . if it is a 2032 0r 2016 i do have new ones here but without the lugs. do u know if i can still solder onto these or would they get damaged with the heat

- Collapse -
I don't solder to lugless 2032s
Jan 21, 2015 4:16AM PST

The heat would do a number on the battery. If there is space I guess a battery holder would do the trick. Remember I can't see what you have there. But 90% or better use a 3V battery so I use the lugged CR2032 since we get those in bulk.
