Resolved Question

Acer Ferrari 3000 LMi Windows XP Service Pack 3 (SP3)

Mar 4, 2012 9:15AM PST

I want to install SP3 before Microsoft pulls the plug on XP in 764 days.

Has anyone done this?

I am up to date with automatic updates, even IE8, except for SP3.

I have read so many horror stories (none about the Ferrari 3000) and warnings about AMD CPUs (which of course powers my Ferrari) and driver issues (WLAN in particular) on the Net that I am proceeding cautiously.

Any experiences, positive or negative would be appreciated.

No, I don't own this acer. Yes, I do backup my system prior to changes I think might be a problem.

I always do.

Thanks RP.
On top of data backups, I always create a Restore Point before loading new s/w. This time I'll Ghost the drive as well just to be on the safe side.

Success!

Well after nothing informative turned up on the Net, just some forum words of encouragement for which I am grateful, I decided to go ahead in the quiet of the evening using the ISO image I downloaded from M$ and burned to CD.

After 1hr and 15 minutes the update finished. That final cleanup took forever Confused !

On rebooting, just the Bluetooth messages displayed but that is nothing new. I get that occasionally. Something else to track down.

So far no irregularities have surfaced. Not even an exclamation mark in Device Manager Happy .

With any luck I won't need any Restore Points or Ghost images.

Thanks again RP.
Over and out.
