Acer E1-531 black screen of death issue, name if BIOS file?

by Mitzimagination / December 7, 2014 7:52 AM PST

What do I call the file that is needed to flash the BIOS on an Acer e1-531? I have done all the steps I've found on YouTube for flashing the BIOS to correct a black screen and power light on. The problem is, there are no directions for calling the file anything other than Q5WV113. Ive only found Aspire One info which is not my model. I've tried adding .fd and .exe to the file name, renamed it 7zs.sfx.exe, all three USB ports and holding down the function and escape keys for 5 secs while hitting the power button. No luck! The power light never flashes and the BIOS does not get rewritten. Any advice?

Dead end it seems.

Acer's site only supplies BIOS updates that run in Windows. So if the machine is broken that badly, it needs to head to the shop.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
