Acer desktop cutting out.

My sister has an Acer desktop, six years old, and has started to cut to standby mode without warning. she lives in Europe and as I am UK based it's difficult to explain on the phone just what could be the problem or the solution, especially as neither of us are geeks. Any help would be much appreciated. I know that this is pretty vague but just maybe...

Such as about their maintenance of this machine. Do they clean the vents, heatsinks yearly or did it just sit there?

Thanks for your reply. Knowing my sister as I do, her idea of maintainence would be to dust the outside of the machine when required. I will pass on your comments with thanks

You are right, you must clean the CPU and the fan when there is needed. Not cleaning the fan will cause the computer hang, and the computer cannot be used.
