Acer Aspre 5742 /volume/sound problem

Mar 26, 2011 11:53AM PDT

Now right away I shall make this quite clear. The purchase of this machine was for secondary purposes as we are having a new pc built at the moment.
We picked this lap-top from Amazon UK when it dropped 100? on a special offer. When reviewing we appreciated that the sound was mono only. However the volume is SO LOW as to being almost impossible to hear when on Skype or watching video. Is there something which we can purchase to add to this machine to increase the volume or are we stuck with it. I should say that I,ve adjusted all the internal controls for volume to the maximum settings.
Any help appreciated.

Have you tried a headset?

I'm unsure if you've tried the usual headset or external speakers.

Bob,
Yes, we,ve tried 2 different headsets and there is little difference tbh. Slight increase but nothing to write home about!

Very unusual.

Headsets require so little power I'm left to suggest external amplified speakers. These are very common today so that's what we want next.

I don't think that there is a big difference in these two headsets, I have used both but didn't feel any much..........
