Acer Aspire V5-571p Shuts Down Randomly

Apr 3, 2015 7:49AM PDT

I have an Acer Aspire V5-571P with a fresh install of Windows 7 Ult. on it. The thing will randomly shut down, sometimes after hours, sometimes after minutes, sometimes I can use it all day long with no problem. Found one of the RAM sticks was only half-seated but that doesn't seem to have fixed it. Doesn't seem to be a temperature issue as the temp monitor I have shows both cores rarely getting close to 50C (not loading the machine much at all). I'm hesitant to change out the motherboard if someone else has experienced this and knows a good fix. Please advise.

(NT) Are you doing the monthly canned air cleaning?

Something like that...

I've only had it for a little over a week, but first thought for the problem was a heat problem and to hit it with compressed air. Lacking the canned air I opted to empty a 5 gallon air compressor through the ductwork at 100psi in case the cooling fan had an issue. I thought it helped but the problem is very random. Just earlier I was playing a game for over 2 hours with no issue then stepped out for a smoke and came back and it was shut down.

One week. Warranty issue.

Let them fix or replace.

Not that simple..

It's a long story how I came about owning this computer but rest assured if it was under warranty I wouldn't be contemplating a motherboard change, much less blasting out the cooling duct with an air compressor.

Only know what you write here.

If it's older then we start with canned air. This is not new for laptops. Many laptops didn't get a seasonal canned air cleaning and the machine is usually filthy inside. As we pass about 2 years old I find I need to replace heat sink compound not only because it dries and cracks but we need to check the HSF mounting.

About that fresh install.

I don't see a full rundown of that install but laptops do tend to be very hard on folk. That is we have the OS, then drivers and finally an area that most techs skip. The helper apps that do mundane things like turn on WiFi or control chip speeds and fans to keep the heat under control. Some like Intel's RST are forgotten (may or may not apply here) and the owner is left with a problematic laptop.

Fix? Install the factory supplied OS and it should be like new. Or take the time to see if the maker will detail how to install Windows. I can not give an exact rundown but only a guide since there are some million models out now.
