Nothing it seems.

I'm seeing some machines with disabled IDE controllers. It's a simple fact that IDE is going the way of the floppy controller.

Why fix this? And if you just bought this, why is it your problem? (hint: WARRANTY TIME.)

by the way...whats the function of ide controllers??

will there be any consequences if i keep it at its present non working state?

On today's machines?

The answer varies but you should see it being phased out. What's the function? None if you don't have a drive attached. And I'm going to cut short a discussion about how such interfaces are on the way out. WE WANT LOWER PRICES and this is how it is done. Legacy interfaces will go away.

No.

And if you fix it you may cause the machine to run slower as it is now able to check to see if drives are attached there.

Hope that helps,
Bob
