Question

Acer Aspire screen problem

Feb 14, 2015 4:17AM PST

Hi all

Today i was using my laptop (Acer Aspire 5742ZG) normally and then suddenly my screen freezes and turns off. The picture at that moment when the screen froze was covered with green horizontal lines and some small green squares and then the screen switched off while the laptop continued to operate normally.

I tried to restart my laptop, but the screen does not turn on, and looks like laptop is working normally because I can hear the windows login sound (led indicators for WIFI and HDD are working).
I tried to connect the laptop and TV via HDMI cable, but the TV does not get any picture.

Do you have any idea what could be the problem and how it might be solved?

I tried few solutions i found on other forums and youtube but nothing seems to work.

I tried that trick with holding button for xx seconds while battery and ac is off. Still got problem.
I maintenanced my laptop i think 3 times (i bought it in 2011).

Sadly it sounds like a failed part or board.

Did you try it without the battery? Why I ask is that a 2011 laptop could have a worn battery exacerbating the issues. That said I find old laptops with failed batteries that are doing nothing but taxing the laptop. That's well discussed so one more try and this time omit the battery.

PS. Good to read you did that much. Some folk did nothing. At least it's in the realm of when we see a lot of fails (4'ish years.)

At this age the CMOS BATTERY is suspect. Use your Volt meter or just replace the battery. Some folk don't have basic gear so a battery is cheaper. I use the Volt meter since I need to know if that's it.
