Question

Acer Aspire One fan under-powered, causing overheat

May 15, 2015 1:29AM PDT

Hi guys, Kingstevenrules here.

I'm having some problems with the fan on my Acer Aspire One Netbook. Here's some specs of it.

Acer Aspire One KAV60
<span style="font-size: 14.4799995422363px;">

<span style="font-size: 14.4799995422363px;">Price as reviewed / Starting price$379

Processor1.6GHz Intel Atom N270

Memory 512MB 533MHz DDR2

Hard drive 8GB SSD

Chipset Intel GM945

Graphics Intel 945GME Express (integrated)

Operating System Linpus Linux Lite v1.0.2.E #For me, this is Windows XP SP3#

Dimensions (WDH) 9.8x6.7x1.1 inches

Screen size (diagonal) 8.9 inches

System weight / Weight with AC adapter 2.1/2.8 pounds

(End Specs)

The problem I'm running into, is that when it's running, the fan on it is too under-powered for it to stay cool, and it starts to lag sometimes. It's working good, but I'd like to have some better performance. Ideas?

Also, another problem on the side: Where in the world can I get an external CD drive?? It doesn't have one at all!

But USB DVDRW drives are in stores around here from 20 to 50 bucks. I can't tell if you are in some wasteland but these are easy to find here.

As to the machine it looks to be from about 2008 so either replace the worn out parts or move on. It was fine in its day but just like an old car you fix or sell.
