My 3050 acer aspire laptop's ethernet adaptor keeps shutting down.I have to go into the control panel to turn it back on to get online. The lap top has 1 gb of ram,1.8 ghz sempron 3500 cpu and an 80 gb hard drive. The laptop doesn't have too much to load when it boots. It runs vista home basic.I've had the laptop for 3 weeks.

Is It An Extra PCMCIA Card Or Internal?
by Grif Thomas Forum moderator / October 22, 2007 7:50 AM PDT

EXACTLY what do you do in the "Control Panel" when you "turn it back on"?

If external, have you swapped in a known "good" card to verify whether it's the card or the circuitry?

If Internal on the motherboard, have you tried finding and installing an updated driver? Updated drivers are being released frequently because of Vista's conflicts.

If you're connecting to a DSL or cable modem, make sure to updated the firmware on your modem or router.. It's another issue of Vista..

Hope this helps.

Do not hesitate to call it in. I see people delay and end up having to keep a bum system.

power saving program
by jeremydude2005 / October 25, 2007 8:02 AM PDT

new laptops are really into deciding how to save power for you, and in many cases go overboard with shutting things down without telling you what they are doing. i would start by checking any acer programs in the start menu about power/energy/etc for some sort of control on when to shut off the network adapter.

alternatively of specific power management programs put on by the company (which you should check for first as they are much more likely to be turning off the network card while in use) most network cards have their own ability to turn off though this shouldn't happen while in use. if you want to check this by disabling the feature start=>run "devmgmt.msc" and find the device that is disabling in network adapters and open its properties. it will likely have some form of "power management" and an option selected for the computer to disable it.

since your laptop was recently purchased i would suggest checking this immediately and reporting this as a hardware problem if you cant find a software power management feature that is turning the device off too often.

NETWORK ADAPTER KEEPS SHUTTING DOWN
by bp41ddb / February 17, 2009 10:49 PM PST

WHAT I FOUND WAS WINDOWS LIVE DESKTOP MAIL WAS SHUTTING IT DOWN
i BELEIVE THAT EVERY TIME IT RECEIVED MESSAGES, IT WOULD HAVE A CONFLICT WITH THE ADAPTER
REMOVED WINDOWS LIVE DESKTOP MAIL COMPLETELY AND HAVE HAD NO PROBLEMS EVER SINCE.

RUNNING VISTA SP1

HP PAVILLION M8400F QUADRO 3G RAM 720 G HARD DRIVE

COULD BE SOFTWARE ISSUES THAT CONFLICT WITH THE ADAPTER, ANYTHING THAT REQUIRES INTERNET USE

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
