Acer aspire 1362wlc, mp3's skip when playing!

Jun 2, 2005 3:50AM PDT

I have the above laptop in factory state but with 1 mp3 ripped and no matter what, the mp3 skips at random places during the track. If i go back to where it happened, it won't happen again so the mp3 is not corrupted and anyways its ripped from brand new cd. Any suggestions for this problem, that has stopped me from djing!

What did Acer say about this?

I've called them over my Acer a few times. They were great. Tell about your call.

My computer shop rand acer about it and acer said they can't do anything about a software issue (which it probably is), then my computer shop put it back to factory condition and that's where I am now. I am going updating the BIOS, would that fix it?

(NT) (NT) Do try it.

Just FYI.

If you are using Windows Media Player, I can't help you. I know of no cure for that one.

I updated bios and no luck, this happens with every media player, would a mobile cpu cause this?

Doubtful.

My Acer ter-600 with the powerful p3-600MHz, 256MB RAM and Windows 2000 seems fine. But I don't use WMP, and know if I start my video editor during playback it may pause since that's the nature of PCs. However, if it's just playing video, it does fine.

Too bad you are not following that forum note. There's so little to work with here.

And about that hijackthis log. I haven't seen it.

There's 3 items that you might be able to toss.

Of course this may be normal for your machine to glitch if you have less than 512MB RAM or some network connection that is not used. Windows does pause about every 10 minutes if you have an ethernet connection and it's not used. But your post is void of details. I can't keep asking for such.

Some Details
Jun 2, 2005 5:16AM PDT

MS XP HOME SP2
Mobile AMP Sempron processor 2800+ 1.6 ghz
448MB RAM

It cant be normal if the exact same mp3s that I have on 2 pc's work perfect in the exact same program (MixmEister) and not on the laptop?

What other details can I get for you?

Such as..
Jun 2, 2005 5:21AM PDT

What's plugged into the ethernet port.

You need to read my replies and take the hints about issues. If not, you'll likely end up broke at a repair counter (let's hope not!)

i disabled the ethernet connection as I have none. and still the same

You need to write more.
Jun 2, 2005 6:04AM PDT

While you did claim all players do this, you never revealed what you are using. And by your hijack log you are running other applications that will interfere.

I'm very patient but can't ask every question. You should just spill the beans.

And did I write I have no fix for Windows Media Player?
Jun 2, 2005 6:17AM PDT

If I didn't let me write I know of no cure for that one.

What else did you try?

What I did
Jun 2, 2005 6:26AM PDT

I disbled the page file, no luck
I done the dma thing, no luck
I done the ethernet thing (but didn restart, does that matter)
I terminated some of those background processes.
What else can I do?

For one thing...
Jun 2, 2005 6:48AM PDT

I can't help you fix Windows Media Player. I don't know of anyone shy of God that can get it to fly without pause.

Maybe someone else will try helping you, but just for fun I pulled up Windows Media Player (I'll call it WMP from now on) and watched it's CPU and memory use with the Task Manager. It jumped up to over 20 megabytes then soaked the CPU (mine is a P4 2.4GHz non-HT) now and again. Definitely still a memory and CPU hog.

I pulled up WinAmp and it's still under 10M RAM (9,238K to be exact) and while playing it show up as 1 or 2% of the CPU usage.

WMP seems to do strange things with memory. It jumped up and grabbed more, accessed the internet (I don't know why) and then dropped back to 20 megabytes.

And I still don't know how to cure WMP. I can only note that its not something I run often.

Best of luck,

Bob
