I have the above laptop. The problem i have is that no matter what media player I use, my mp3s skip at unconsistant points. I.E if i go back top where the skip happened it won't happen again but might skip at another different spot!

In XP a recurring fix is to set the IDE channels to PIO, OK it then go back in and set them back to DMA.

I did what you said but still the same. Any other ideas? I wonder is it sp2 problem?
I tried that with no effect, what can I do now to fix this? The computer store that sold it to me said they can't do anything for me? PLEASE HELP ME
1. Recheck you did that proper as documented at http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/device/storage/IDE-DMA.mspx
2. Email me your hijackthis log so I can look under the hood.
3. You ignored those words in RED labeled "Note:" Answer at least that question so we can move along.
