ACDSee dumps customers overcompatibility with Mountain Lion

Buyer beware: ACDSee, a program that is used by amateurs and professionals alike, just dumps its loyal customers over the Mountain Lion compatibility. Although they still sell it over the App Store, the product is incompatible. Even worse, this incompatible version 2.0 of ACDSee is on the market since a few months only. The ACDSee customers who bought version 1.9 well into 2012 for 115 $ are left in the cold as ACDSee refuses to make the program compatible with Mountain Lion for them. These customers are told to upgrade to 2.0 for 79 $ first or remain incompatible.
This is the most flagrant abuse of a Mac OS upgrade by a software provider that I have ever seen.

I wonder what perspective you have on this. You may get more bears with honey than with vinegar (wait, how does that saying go?) In short, posting about this may let you vent but given the short time the company has had to think about the upgrade path and maybe 2.0 was out when 1.9 was, maybe there's more to this story.

I'd wait a bit.

ACDSee' get rich quick scheme

What I am saying is this: in April 2012 you buy the latest version of their software, version 1.9. In June they bring out a new version, 2.0. You pay 79 $ if you want it. A few months later Mountain Lion comes out and those who bought 1.9 a couple of months ago will have to pay 79$ first to upgrade to 2.0 as deliberately no patch will be made for 1.9 customers.
The 1.9 customers are those that hVe been loyal to ACDSee for years. They will now leave.
So the -get rich quick- scheme of ACDSee will backfire as their loyal customers leave and the rest of the world knows they can not be trusted.
Why buy ACDSee if you can use it only for a few months when you have great alternatives like Lightroom and Aperture ?

It appears you feel a little burned but let's give it a little time for the company to think it over. As an author I see this from another perspective. I might cut a deal on the new version but your posting strikes me as if this is one of your first Apple OS upgrades.

This isn't as bad as when it wipes out your Microsoft Office. I wonder how you feel about that one?

It is evident to me that you do not understand the issue at hand.

I threw away 115 $ for a program that is completely obsolete just a few months after I was stupid enough to buy it. i did that because I am a long time customer of ACDSee products and they write me that they refuse to make the product I bought Mountain Lion compatible. What shall I give them time to think it over ?
I am also a 10 years long Apple user and went through all the upgrades but never met such a greedy money eater as ACDSee. From what perspective do you see it as 'an author', as you say ?

By the way, my Microsoft office 2011 works just fine, so why the remark about wiping out Microsoft office.

I wasted 115$ that I should have used to buy a decent product like Aperture.

ACDSee = money making scam and it was not like that in the past. Someone with dollar signs in his eyes now probably leads this once reputable company.

It appears you haven't been to this party before. I've lost count of Apple OS upgrades that result in dead apps.

Why do you lay the blame solely at one company? And why not give them time to see how folk feel about it?

Your posts make me think this is your first ride on this bus.

Here you are free to write such things.

I've seen this story more than a few times and it takes time for software companies to come up with a plan if it's needed. Maybe they will but some folk haven't been around long enough to have seen this happen. In fact today I see folk get very upset with phones, PCs that have a bug or defect.

That is, the companies are still putting out stuff that is usually good enough for most of us and works most of the time. Some folk think that by now, all those bugs would have been worked out. The truth is much harder for folk to accept.
