Accidentally Opened A Malicious Link

Jan 15, 2015 2:00AM PST

I was on the Steam gaming software and got a message from someone saying they wanted to trade and sent me a link. I knew not to open it without checking it first but while i was copying and pasting it into my search bar i accidentally went to the website (I know this was incredibly dumb and I should not have even messed with it).

it immediately started downloading a file. i tried to cancel but it was done to fast. i clicked on the notification and it asked if i wanted to run or cancel the file. i clicked cancel obviously, but I am unsure if there is already something on my computer or not. Any idea how I can figure out? I ran a malwarebytes scan and I am currently running a MSE scan to see if it can pick anything up. Thanks in advance!

Scary but could be fine.

Downloading a file but not opening it should be OK. You can use Grif's fine advice for a list of free scanners to see if something was installed.

I suggest you run CCLEANER (just the file cleaner part) after you read what it cleans. Just to clean off the temp and download file areas.
