What you need are the motherboard drivers. Quite often, they come with the PC on a separate CD (that the motherboard maker ships with the motherboard if sold on retail), but apparently Compaq didn't include it with the PC.
The best thing to do: use your recovery discs. I can't tell how, but the idea is to boot from the first and follow the instructions, while giving the appropiate answers.
Hope this helps.
I hope you can help me. I was having trouble installing a printer and called the technical support for PC world. I was told to go onto Device Manager and to Uninstall everything under the USB heading. (Clearly very bad advice!)
This has really messed up my USB ports and my built in card reader will now no longer work.(When I put in a media card nothing happens.)
When I go to Device manager now at the bottom is "USB2.0-CRW" (the media card reader) with an exclamation mark next to it. When I click on properties it says
"Windows cannot use this hardware device because it has been prepared for "safe removal", but it has not been removed from the computer. (Code 47)
To fix this problem, unplug this device from your computer and then plug it in again.
Click 'Check for solutions' to send data about this device to Microsoft and to see if there is a solution available."
Obviously I cannot unplug the card reader as it is built in to the PC (factory installed).
Checking for solutions has no effect.
I do not want this to be removed from my PC and would appreciate any help you can give me to get it working again.
I have tried restoring my system to an earlier point but this failed.
When I turn my PC on I get this;
"Found New Hardware - Windows Needs to install Driver Software for your Universal Serial Bus (USB) COntroller". It offers to locate but can't. It then asks me if I have a disc.
My computer didn't come with any discs (PC World don't seem very generous on that score).
It then offers to look for solutions but can't find any. It does this for each USB and the card reader.
I did actually make up Recovery Discs a week or so ago. Would these have the drivers on? If so, how would I use it.
I am running Windows Vista and my PC is a Compaq SR2125 if this helps.
I really wish I hadn't listened to PC Performance's advice!
