Resolved Question

Accessing Mac Files on External HDD

May 2, 2016 9:56AM PDT

I have recently had to replace the HDD in my Mac, but want to copy the files from my old hard drive. I installed it into a USB caddy and plugged it into my MacBook. I can see all the files, but they have a red triangle, and I am told that "access is denied" when I try to open them. Any ideas please, as I really need the files.
Thanks in advance

I suspect that the account you created on the new HDD

does not have the same name as the account you had on the old HDD and that you did not use Time Machine to put your data back onto the new HDD.

Right click on the old HDD icon and Get Info.
Down at the bottom of the resulting window you will see Sharing & Permissions
Change "everyone" to Read & Write" and you "should" be ok
