Accessing internet from LAN

by mtmk / November 3, 2004 4:31 AM PST

I have a Dell Latitude D600,running Windows XP Professional SP1.

I go onsite to many different clients. (I am a CPA). For my clients with a LAN and internet access, I generally just plug into their data port, and I can access the internet.

I am now at a client where I plug in , but cannot access the internet. I get a connection, and I can even see the computers on my client's network. However, when I open IE 6, I can the "Page not found" page.

Note that I get an IP address assigned when I plug in, and I can find no other obvious issues.
(The staff in the department where I am working do not know anything about it).

I am just assuming the company has a firewall or something that is keeping my computer from communicating outside the network. However, if anyone can tell me if I am missing something, I would appreciate it.

Thanks in advance.

That's a sign their IT is doing a good job. Just ask their IT staff what it takes for their network.

don't they have a network administrator there?? they need to add your IP address into their firewall.
