accessing disk problem

Jul 11, 2005 10:51PM PDT

I am having trouble accessing my maxtor 6y200m0 sata drive, the Nforce3 sata raid driver that came with my board has been corrupted on the floppy, so I have downloaded and used the one from the NVIDIA website and the file from the Maxtor site, But when I try to access it, windows tells me it needs formatting (and if I try to format it, then it crashes!...windows recognises it in "my computer" and reports it on diagnostic programs, but it wont let me access it)

I am using XP Pro. and my Sata drive is 200GB
Can anyone offer any suggestions for this problem?

thanks in advance

Just one thing.

XP Pro (note no SP1 or SP2) can't handle over 127GB (or 137GB if you count bytes another way) and the issue is fully explained at http://www.48bitlba.com

Try a KNOPPIX and then...

First, find a KNOPPIX CD, boot it and see if the data is there. Your post omitted the SP1 clue but that leads to another clue. Why isn't SP2 installed? I find those that don't have SP2 are "experts" and use other than Microsoft tools to prepare the drive.

-> How was that drive partitioned and formatted? You didn't tell.
