Question

AC charger causing computer shuts down

Apr 5, 2020 11:12PM PDT

Hi I have an ASUS Zenbook 15,
Recently I sent my laptop back to ASUS for screen repair. When I got it back, I tried to open video games and CAD software, it works fine until I plug my computer in with an AC charger, the fan just start running crazy and the computer shuts down after a bit. The charger charges normally and it's the one that came with the computer. I have tried to contact ASUS but they did not give back a clear answer, is there anything that I could do to solve this problem?

Answer
What answers have they given?

I doubt they can fix it without a return to their service as well as they won't be able to tell you what is wrong till it's repaired. Once in a while a client wants a full diagnosis with exactly what's wrong without the machine or device being given to the techs or repaired. Clients may exclaim "they don't know what's wrong."

Let's hear more.

Just update the battery drivers

They told me to update the battery/charger drivers, which wasn't helpful as the issue still existed afterwards I tried to contact them again but was not successful.

That sounds odd to me.

In decades I've yet to find that to work.

I think we are stuck with something defective until there are more clues or it's on the test bench.

If it is software than either a factory reset or a clean install of the OS, drivers and apps will clear it up. Mind you I can't guess if there has been changes to BIOS settings so be sure to set those to factory condition as well.
