about to switch, need last minute advice

Dec 11, 2004 12:24AM PST

We need to switch our AT&T line (need new phone) and have been told that T-Mobile in Chicago is better than the new Cingular, which is what they (former AT&T) want us to change to. Any advice before we switch today (anyone with specific experience that going to Cingular is better than T-Mobile or visa-versa)? Thanks.

Would you post the link to the info, or the actual info with the source, showing that T-mobile is also Cingular? Thanks.

I've heard that T-Mobile has lots of overloaded circuits in Chicago, and if you're able to make a call, you'll either have lots of static or your calls will drop frequently. That's what I've been told by people who I knew that had T-Mobile, plus the bad reviews I've read on CNet.com and Consumer Reports about T-Mobile. For the Chicago market, I'd recommend Verizon Wireless as calls don't get dropped as often, but I'd recommend Kyocera, Nokia, or Samsung for best reception. Motorola will work fine in most neighborhoods, but from my experience, Motorola phones don't work in areas with weak reception. The only problem I have with Cingular is customer service, as people I know have had problems with customer service, but not always with reception though.
