? about remastered CDs and downloads

Dec 28, 2010 8:44PM PST

Can someone explain the business of remastering a CD by an artist?
I read somewhere by an old school artist that they didn't get royalties if someone downloaded their music from Itunes, etc. That the record company got the revenue.
So if I buy the CD will they get royalty? I want to support the artist.
And I notice a lot of artists have remastered their old tunes.
Explain please.
