About MEGXON Cameras

May 13, 2005 8:53PM PDT

Hi.
I am based in Taiwan and start working closely with MEGXON manufacturer to improve both the reputation of the brand and the performance of the products.
We are fully aware that advertising using interpolated resolution is really a pain in an ake and real unfair. However I have to clearly state that it ios not the fault of the manufacturer but the one of the retailer who mask the real performance of the product.
Regarding this point I like to mention that:
if you have one computer with apporpriate software, interpolation is really the last thing you need. You can do what you want with photo software.
But if you don't have any computer and you just want to print out you image, in such a case integrated interpolation software can be use to recentyer you photo or to have a better printing for large format.

But of course you will never improive the quality of your photography using interpolation.

Now let me come to my real issue.
I like top have feed back from people who have bought MEGSON camera. I like to know what is good, what is not good.
Using these information i will go back to Megxon and will do my best to improve the service.
Specially for people who are using
S303/S302
C480
C531
T51
I thank in advance all people that will help us in our mission.

It's not false advertizing. It's not. It's not! It's NOT!
Jul 22, 2006 1:57AM PDT

No, it's not ''false advertizing'' technically speaking.
No what it is, technically speaking, is THIS:
-It is sucker bait.
-It is misleading advertizing.
-It is insulting to the technically savvy.
-It preys specifically and purposefully on user ignorance.

Now it comes as no surprise to me that Megxon does, or is going to, market their product through Bell & Howell. You see, this once reputable company (and I'm going back 30-40 years) has re-emerged lately as yet another junk-monger. Their crap is SO bad that when I search for cams on Ebay, I specifically exclude them.
E.G.: If I search for ''camcorder, I'll search using the following line, sans quotes:
''camcorder -battery -cable -howell''

And guess what? B&H advertizes their crap exactly the same way you do: ZIGAPIXEL HR KEYCHAIN CAMERA!
It makes me gag.

Another piece of nonsensical advertizing that you engage in is the old ''12X ZOOM'' which turns out to be 3x optical (which is fine) used with 4x digital (which is junk).

I even saw one of your cameras with GAMES installed on it! If I wanted games and a camera in one unit, I'll buy a damned cellphone, thank you very much.

Look, you guys are missing the boat completely here.
Let me tell you something I saw on the Megxon website that I DID like: A picture of an Asian Honeybee on a flower. It is an UNinterpolated image from the Megxon MZ6 camera. (The same one with stupid GAMES on it!)
This image is NOT B&H crap, dudes! And you should run as far away from those clowns as you can get.

I think the MZ6 has great possibilities. And using it as an example, here's what I would suggest vis-a-vis marketing:

There's not a damned thing wrong with a 6MP CCD camera.
But advertize it as such from the top down.
Quit making ''maximum resolution'' a primary spec. Serious photographers and geeks don't give a rat's *** about interpolation. It makes the camera look like a kid's toy. So do the goofy games. Is your camera just a kid's toy?
If you MUST advertize it, make it some ''added feature'' down in the bells and whistles section. Don't even put it on the box where junkmongers can see it.

Same with zoom specs. On the site, the MZ6 is advertized with ''Max. 14X Zoom (2.8X Optical and 5X Digital Zoom)''. Digital zoom is almost worthless. When you multiply substance by worthless, you get a worthless answer. Just say what it IS: ''2.8X Optical and 5X Digital Zoom''. Consumers know how to multiply.

The 2/5'' CCD on this unit is nice. But golly, what are it's noise specs? What are it's lowlight capabilities? What are it's color response curves?

I think you have some pretty decent engineers there that are coming up with some pretty decent hardware. Don't go screwing it up with junk marketing!

RED LAMBORGHINI FOR SALE! (actually white, but comes with a can of red paint and a brush)

Nothing wrong with a white Lamborghini, but the ad pisses off those looking for a red one, and doesn't speak to those looking for a white one.

Glad I researched first
Jan 17, 2006 4:20AM PST

I am so glad I found this website with your postings before I decided to waste any money. When I saw 12 megapixels I couldn't believe it. So I started to research to see if I could find the price of the camera any where else. Of course I have had no luck. I am glad I came across your posting and hopefully this will save other people from making a mistake too.

Thanks again

I'm in the same boat thankfully. I've been looking to buy a camera and was amazed to see a 12MP camera on ebay recently. After i noticed the seemingly cheap brand name i did some research and ended up in this forum. Thanks alot guys for the submissions of your complaints. It stopped me from making a very bad decision. I know now to buy a brand which i've at least heard of!

I have just bought a C480 and cannot get the camera to transfer photos into my PC. The PC keeps referring to Drive A which is not in use.
I have also found the manual poorly written and not very detailed especially the part which refers to using the PC. The illustration on Page 33 doesn't come up on my computer at all nor does DCIM or 1004MDSC.

All this in one weekend of use. I am very worried have I bought a lemon?

The only support that I know of for Megxon cameras is eMail support in Taipei Taiwan.

They also have a phone number in Taiwan, but I would guess that you better brush up on your Chinese before calling that number.

MEGXON S302
Aug 29, 2005 7:41AM PDT

My question is based on the camcorder part of the camera how do you enable the camera to gain light if you have poor lighting in your house. i do not see how you can increase the lighting through the camera itself if you want to record home videos of parties.
second question is what does the hand indicate in the camera when the camera is in snap picture mode ? because on my screen the hand is always there indicating a stop sign

S302
Aug 29, 2005 8:26AM PDT

The S302 is a basic no-frills camera.

Many people complain about the video mode.
Most report that you can not use it indoors.

The hand is probably a signal to let you know that the camera has chosen a slow shutter speed and that hand-holding the camera can result in a blurred photo.

You will likely always see it, when taking photos inside. It should disappear if you take the camera outside on a sunny day.

Here are a couple of links that might be helpful:

Hi
Unfortunalety there is no magic. If there is no light enought, you cannot increase the light inside the camera.
I should add that the S302 is firstly one camera with video recording capability. It is not a camcorder dedicated to video recording.
Regarding the small hand, it means that you don't have light enough.

HELP! The screen is broken on my S302, the camera works fine otherwise, to include taking and downloading pictures. But I want to put it into webcam mode. Without the screen, I am clicking blindly. Would someone be nice enough to talk me through it? IE. "Click menu, click right 2 times, click down 3 times, click right, click down, click ok" or whatever the sequence is.

MEGXON C430
Sep 7, 2005 12:17PM PDT

I bought a Megxon C430 nearly 1 year ago. Early on the case cracked for no apparent reason, the sound was VERY poor & the camera would chatter then lock up taking a photo from low light into a brightly lit subject. The camera was replaced under warranty. The warranty has now nearly expired & 3 cracks have appeared around the base of the replacement camera case. The camera does not sit evenly on a level surface. On contacting the supplier in Australia they indicated they have never had such a problem reported to them even though they replaced the first cracked camera. Photos of the 2 cameras with cracks have been sent to them. They are unwilling to replace the 2nd camera as it is outside a 6 month period. I can cope with the poor sound & chatter & lock up in low light to bright light but not with the cracking case. This camera has been used infrequently & has never been abused, dropped or handled roughly. I am the only person who uses it. Anything you can do to help would be apprecited

if you're set on buying one, i will sell you mine. if i were you though, i'd do some more research before spending any amount of money on one.

Camera settings
Dec 8, 2005 8:04PM PST

Sorry for the late reply.

The camera does not save your settings. The best solution I have found is.....set the mode wheel to "P", then select settings, then set these priorities: 4m = 4 megapixals, = sharpness priority (then set the camera to "H", for high, when in picture taking mode, focus area = set, focal range = matrix, ISO = 400, color = normal, image quality = best.

Now exit the settings menu. Remember to set the sharpness to "H", for high, by pressing the "OK" button to the right one time. Pop the flash up and you are ready to go. You should now get wonderful pictures. With these settings, the pictures will NEVER be blurry and they will always be sharp. I have gone to airshows, and taken pics of old war planes, stopping the prop in mid flight. AWESOME! Enjoy

C630 camera goes kaput. HELP!!!!
Feb 1, 2006 12:49PM PST

Hi, I bought a Megxon C630 in October, 2005. I have been using a 512 MB SanDisk memory card with it. 2 weeks after I bought it I had problems. When I switched it on it went to the wrong menu, and on the off-chance that it took any pictures it didn't focus them, but snapped them continuously until I turned it off. I found that I needed to reformat the memory card, both internal and external, which I did. After that my camera worked, though periodically I've had to reformat the cards.

If I leave the battery in the camera over a few days, the inner memory card (and removable one, if left in there) becomes corrupt, and has to be reformated. Over the last few months I've
simply been removing both the battery and memory card when not in use. For
the most part my camera has been working fine. Occasionally it does not
focus without taking a picture, and occasionally for no apparent reason
both the internal and external memory need to be reformatted.

The last few days though, my camera seems to have died. I'm frustrated, and
at my wits end. I'm also without a camera, which I need this week for my
business.

When I turn the camera on now, with a fully charged battery, (in any
setting) all I see is the 'Digital View' default start-up screen...then it
freezes there. 9 times out of ten I can't get anything else. When there is
anything else, it never is the right setting (if the wheel says camera it
defaults to gallery, or movie mode, etc), and always malfunctions hideously.
In short, it is impossible to use.

I have been very careful with it since it's purchase, and have always taken
great care to avoid anything which may compromise its performance. I can
think of nothing that would have caused any of this to happen.

It is now less then 4 months since I bought this camera, well covered by the
year long warranty. Is there any way for me to fix this myself? Is there anything else I can try and do? If not, I would like either a new camera that is working perfectly, or my money back. I contacted the vendor I bought the camera from, and he said contact Tech support. I've contacted tech support, and as of yet have not had a reply to my email. Preferably I would
like a new camera, and to send back my old one. If it is not possible to recieve a new camera that works perfectly (i.e. if these problems are common), I would like my money back. What steps must I take now? And is there any way I can try to fix this myself?

It is doubtful that you can fix the camera yourself.

Most of Megxon camera are made in China and I doubt that they have any repair facilities. However they should exchange the camera under their warranty.

Here is their address:

http://www.megxon.com/ContactUs.htm

If they do not respond, your only recourse is to go back to the place of purchase and ask for a replacement.

If you bought the camera on eBay, you are probably out of luck. Many of the eBay sellers will not honor the warranty.

..............

You may want to start looking for a new camera if you have a need for one in the near future.

This time, purchase a name brand camera:

Canon, Casio, Fujifilm, Kodak, Nikon, Olympus, Panasonic, Sony.
These companies support their products and honor their warranties.
