Re: speed

50 up and 50 down. That's not bad for a speedtest, if this are mbps as you say later.
Since a speedtest is just downloading and uploading and 50 mbps, it's strange that all downloads and uploads are so slow.

it could be a problem with your ISP. So the first thing I should do is to try another PC/laptop and see if that's as slow as your regular one.
It's unlikely to be a virus, I think.

The speed test doesn't mean much in real life.

That is, the speed test would be from here to there but not from say Steam to your PC. Steam serves up bazillions of gigabytes so when a new title rolls out I see Steam speed plummet. There isn't much here to work with about your PCs in question.

Re: speed

If your laptop and your PC consistently have very different download speeds via the same connection from the same sites with the same files - when run alternately) I'm inclined to say something is wrong with your PC.

Then I would try the same after booting the PC to a Linux disk. If that's just as slow as Windows, it's a hardware issue. If that's just as fast as Linux, it's Windows. Then go back to factory conditions from your recovery disks (after DBAN, the recovery partition won't work anymore).
