None of my criticisms of Bush over the past three years has been unfounded, and many of my dire predicitions have in fact come to pass (where's Ian with his record of the old forum when I need him?
) OTOH, the continual throwing of unfounded accusations at Kerry is demeaning to the throwers, and will eventually backfire big-time to Bush's detriment unless a real problem with Kerry crops up. So far, nothing close -- and creating phony pictures and sound-bytes trying to link Kerry to unpopular positions just shows the lack of scruples, that typify Republican political campaigns, and the depths of their current desperation. BTW, this is nothing new for Kerry -- see Nixon targeted Kerry for anti-war views.

In another thread Dave K and myself have exchanged a few words (nothing new here
) about smear campaigns and how they can get old quickly.
In that the closest to actual campaigning most of us will ever become is in conversations such as take place here in SE. We take a bit of pleasure in poking fun at the principal personalities in a political race. Some will call this smear activity. I don't consider it smear when there is a grain of truth, however subtle, in the ribbing. Otherwise, just having fun at the expense of a contestant.
Having thought of the exchange with Dave, I came to a stop when I asked myself if this motivation, at this time, to have fun was really having fun with candidate Kerry,...or...was this an opportunity to exact a measure of retribution from the author of a continuous smear toward the President and his Administration for the past three plus years.
Sadly, and embarrassed, I answered my question.
But I yet intend to have fun.
