A Simple WARNING!!!!!

Jan 7, 2005 7:18AM PST

Never buy anything from Hewitt Packard or Compaq! They are crooks plain and simple. They try blaming things that happen while your computer is in there care on you and then charge you for it and say you can't get your computer back until you pay for their mistake! Sorry if I seem to be ranting but they have just done this to me so I tell you they are crooks plain and simple. There are no if, and, or buts about it if they think they can make some money they will do whatever they can to do it even when that meaNS telling bold faced lyes.

Although I understand that you have a problem with Compaq/HP, I do not believe that this is the place to air grievances in this manner.

There are other avenues you can consider, including the company's complaints procedure, or legal representation.

Simply Wrong !
Jan 7, 2005 8:22AM PST

HP and Compaq, although not perfect, are one of the largest electronics companies in the world. The have a huge array of electronics products including televisions, cameras, FAX, copiers and printing machines, as well as computers, monitors, etc. I have used HP and Compaq products for years and have had relative success with their support and their products..In the business world, HP products are huge.

That said, you've provided no specific information about your problem so we might be able to help you fix it. 'RANT' (your term) is correct. If you feel you've been "wronged" by a compamy, there are responsible and effective ways to approach the problem. (Better Business Bureau, etc.)

Just a question, since most users purchase HP and Compaq from various vendors and those vendors supply support for the product...did you actually purchase your product from HP or Compaq such as an online purchase, or is the vendor really at fault here?

Don't confuse "support" with "warranty".

Today's SPYWARE is costing consumers plenty. Some consumers will think that virus, trojan, SPYWARE damage is all included in "support". Sorry but that's something you get to pay for.

Members here read SPYWARE STORIES daily so they have the advantage on this topic.

You could try and see what the HP forums say about this. I have always had good luck posting questions about my HP computer there and I have seen where several people were able to get things resolved with HP thanks to the helpful people.

Good ol HP computers
Jan 7, 2005 11:42AM PST

The only time I've had any trouble with my old HP was because of something I messed up myself. I called HP support on the phone and the guy walked me through the problem and bingo! Problem solved. I wont have any thing else anymore.

You think hp/compaq are bad try I/O magic!!!
Jan 8, 2005 10:34AM PST

Been trying for over a week to get a rma # to send back a dvd writer and they act like I don't exist. When I had a Maxtor hard drive go bad they sent me a new one and I had it installed in my pc in a week. Now that's a good company. Every company has defects in a certain number of their products, it's a good company that takes care of them defects in a prompt manner.

Just some general instruction (from someone who has experience w/ online hp vendors): What a lot of people don't understand is that because there are SO MANY ways you can order HP/Compaq products, parts, and accessories it does get confusing. There are online stores (where you can only buy over the 'net OR by phone), plus there are physical retail stores that allow you to order online or by phone as well. When you order, make sure you note the website and/or the ph# you're ordering thru in case you have to contact the vendor in the future. One hp store is not like another, if you call to return something, you HAVE to call the # / website you ordered from (you can't buy something at futureshop and return it at circuit city). Online/telephone orders don't all go into a central database, that would be a direct violation of many MANY privacy/security/information policies. Online stores are only responsible for their own records, so if you're calling random #'s trying to get an RMA and they're saying you don't exist, it's probably b/c you're not speaking w/ the store you ordered from. Also, before you dial to set up a return have model #'s, order #'s, and tracking #'s on hand (these will help the agent assisting you). Hope that helps!

sorry

I have an HP printer and the thing is absolutly magical for the price. I used to work for an offset printer and this little machine does things a Hidelberg 4 color offset press can't do.
I hope things go better for you. I know how frustrating this kind of thing can be. My male friend was convinced (likely still is) that the problems caused by our ignorance of what's happened on the net in the last 5 years was the fault of our lovely custom built P4. As one friend said, it's not a TV.

HP System...
Jan 10, 2005 10:10AM PST

I'll have to take up for HP on this one. My complete system is HP, including my HP1200 series 3in1 printer, copier, scanner. I have not had a problem with anything, other than (operator error) For the price I don't think you can beat HP. We have 3 of them in the house, mine, my stepson's and a spare that is not connected.
Good Luck.

Yeah Right who says hp is a good company?
Jan 13, 2005 4:49AM PST

Well i could not help getting involved in this one!
I have had problems with HP for years on end. Your average computer user will probaly not have as many problems as i have (but not as much as microsoft;about 20 errors reported daily) n e ways. Ive had problems with scanners printer fax machines all in one's and notebooks, doesnt matter how old it is at work we have about 8 HP's and i tell you i wish we didnt. Dont buy n e thing you will have problems and the tech ppl wont help its a hassle with their drivers (some are over a gig) and the programs that come with them (example: HP memorydisc creator). it would take a good 2 full pages to go through all the problems. The worst so far is their notebooks, they burn up, oh and dont but their wireless all in one even if it looks nice go for the brother (i already made that mistake).

p.s. ive dealt with a lot of companies and hp is the worst by far with lexmark and konika beeing the best.

HP

I agree that HP is a thief, when you have a problem with their computers they tell you they need the money upfront once your warranty has expired, and it seems to break down right after the warranty expires. Then you get people on the phone who you need a translator to understand..I'll never buy a HP again.

expired warranty?
Jan 21, 2005 10:07PM PST

"they tell you they need the money upfront once your warranty has expired"

And your point is? No company is going to fix a product free of charge that is no longer covered by the warranty. To criticize HP for that is unfair and out of line.

NEVER SAY "NEVER"
Jan 21, 2005 10:45PM PST

Although I am sure this must occur far too often I have had quite the opposite experience with this company, not once but twice in fact. I must add that what had happened was entirely due to my tampering with certain advanced functions causing my PC to become virtually inoperable. As a student having deadlines I was quite vulnerable, in a state of shock and panic. I made some phone calls and was aware that my "service contract" with Compaq had expired. Despite the fact that I was subject to "pay per incident", for instruction via telephone to restore my computer from damage/s. I was graced, (excused), by the tech specialist after being walked through several processes until alas my PC was fully operational! And, once upon a time I had made a purchase for an HP Lap-Top, after a few months decided I did not like the model I had choosen, without question I was able to return/exchange it for another fully new Compaq/HP either or! Point being, in some instances there are "ifs", and "buts" so...have a bit of faith, "Never say 'never"!
