Quite often when I encounter errors in copying files during setup it's caused by a defective RAM.

If you have several sticks of RAM try and pull some out leaving only one for setup.

Or better still run a MemTest86 test.

You could also run a diagnostic test on your HDD using MaxBlast if it's a Maxtor.

As for your files in the other partitions, it's time to have a backup plan since the HDD can quit working any instant and you risk to lose it all.
Put your CD-RW drive to good use and backup your files.

Failing all the above try and do the setup on a new HDD.

Follow Dave's suggestions, then try another CD device.

Sounds strange but I've had this happen on several systems. The one that taught me to check this was a drive that, from DOS, copied several CDs' to the H/D. Then would not load the O/S. Switched CD device, O/S loaded.

Luck
