Resolved Question

A red cross and plug symbol

I have just done a system restore and my computer has connected to the internet but at the bottom right hand corner there is a red cross and a plug symbol where it normally shows the internet connection is.

Re: connection

In reply to: A red cross and plug symbol

- Wired or wireless?
- What version of Windows?
- What does that symbol say (the 'tooltip') when you hover your mouse above it?
- What does that symbol do when you click it?
- And, as James asked, does your browser work across the connection?

...your antivirus. Something in that list could be causing your shutdown problem.

Thank you

Somehow I solved it! I clicked on Networking Services and ticked the "Simple TCPIP Services" and then tried to reboot but it kept trying to shut down for about an hour, until in pure frustration I turned it off and rebooted and that little cross etc has gone! I'm sorry for strange earlier posts, I was trying to do it on my phone! Thank you so much everyone, I now know where to come for help!

So everything worked with only the symbol being wrong. Then I should accept the situation as is.
