General discussion

A photo from a photo...

May 19, 2006 8:28PM PDT

This is not a question on digital cameras, but is connected to it, and I hope to get a few suggestions. I have posted the question over at the Graphics forum, but did not get any respond. This is a shorter version:

How do I cut out a scene or section of a photo to create a new photo - e.g. cuting out a ''face'' to create a portriat ? I suppose this is what digital photographers do all the time. I am quite familiar with photography and digital cameras, but new to digital graphics. I suppose I will need a digital graphics editing program and a ''technic''. Thanks.

Crop

As Colindarby said......Crop is the word you are looking for.

A handy simple free program is Irfanview.
http://www.irfanview.com

Open a photo with Irfanview
Use the cursor to draw a rectangle around the section of the photo that you want to keep.
Click Edit
Click Crop Section

Be sure to save it under a different name to prevent writing over your original file.
