I think it was open and honest, something needed more in this world. It also confirmed my suspicions that Lee has been made somewhat powerless in what can or can not be done with or to this software. His is not an enviable position.
I disagree with the approach CNET has to the forums, especially in light of it not being a money making venture for them.
I think the approach MSN took in past of having a template that identified ZDNET forums as their own, or at at least a joint adventure, yet while outside their own particular system would be the better approach to these forums by CNET at this point. I think if CNET had used the software as provided by Jive and just changed the template file, made some minor changes in the programming, then any other problems toward integration with their concept of "total system" would have become easier.
Getting back to the bolded point however, it becomes immaterial to have it totally integrated within their overall structure since it isn't part of the income producing side of the company.
We don't know all the conditions under which CNET must operate these forums and it's possible there are corporate rules and strictures that must be complied with for the forums to continue which preclude them NOT being totally integrated into the overall structure.
I'm just glad I'm not in Lee's situation concerning this.
