A note on the marking system...

Sep 10, 2006 11:52AM PDT

Whether a particular thread improperly displays read/unread seems random, but there does appear to be one consistency...almost every time I read a thread using a direct link through e-mail notification, 'most recently posted,' etc, the subsequent viewings of the post in the thread produce the incorrect 'mark.'

Anyone else experience the same?

I was briefly corrected...

After the last forum outage, when the techs (apparently accidentally) reset the message marking, it worked for a few days but then went back to same-old, same-old. I still rely on it, but am looking forward to next month's overhaul. I'm wondering if others have the same issue, though, for that may indicate a deeper problem for the techs. (I sure hope not, though.)

No.

almost every time I read a thread using a direct link through e-mail notification

I only access forums directly and have on numerous occasions noted messages that were marked read which I had never opened or knowingly caused them to be marked as read and are intermingled in-between others I had never read and could be messages with a date newer than my last accessing of a forum. IOW, when I see the first message marked as read, I would assume that no other messages should follow it and be marked as unread.

It's been pushed back by a month or so, giving you plenty of time to take care of the garlic breath and get your taste buds back. Happy Sad
